Our Garage

Exciting title for the post, huh? I bet you always wanted to read about my fascinating garage!

Well, I never realized how much my garage meant to me until we temporarily lost it this weekend. Our garage door spring broke on Saturday afternoon, Peter walked next door to get the phone number of the garage repair guy (our neighbor just offered up the number this fall--just in case), and the door was good as new by 11am today.

Big deal, huh?

Well, actually it kind of felt like it. We had to leave our cars in the driveway on Saturday night and Sunday night--this is not something that we are used to. Luckily we didn't have to scrap off ice, and the snow removal this morning was minimal too.
Also, although our garage is not heated, it does stay rather warm in the winter--like about 30 degrees or so (maybe warmer at times). Since the garage door was open about an inch for 2 days, the garage became mighty cold! BRR.
We also realized last night that we were not going to be able to get our trash can to the curb this morning for pick up. Since the garage door wouldn't open, and the trash can wouldn't fit through the door into our house, leaving it an extra week seemed necessary. Luckily it was only half full this week, so it really didn't seem like a big deal.

As it turns out, the trash can did indeed make it to the curb today, and just in time to be dumped for the week.
Also, the garage door is now opening and closing at it should, one car is already back inside, and it's even warming up in there a bit. Oh, and the price was reasonable too.

What have I learned from this brief experience?
Well, mostly that we are very spoiled here in America. The fact that we even have a 2-car, attached garage could be considered a luxury in some places. I am also thankful that it was just the garage and that it really didn't affect us that much. I mean, it could have the furnace, water heater, electricity, or even an appliance would have been much harder to deal with.

Amen! As Americans we too often take these little things for granted.
Glad your garage is up and running again.
