Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad

On Sunday, October 11 (yesterday), my parents celebrated 34 years of marriage!

Congratulations Mom and Dad!

My parents were married on a beautiful fall day (or so I've seen pictures of, as I am not yet 34 years old). Nothing like the day we had yesterday or today with winter-like weather and cold, cold temps.

I am so thankful to have parents who are still married and who still love each other so much! It seems like now-a-days so many children are born to single parents, or else their parents divorce sometime before they graduate high school.

I can honestly say that never in my life did the thought of my parents not being together forever, ever cross my mind. I have never seen my parents fight (argue or disagree, yes, but who doesn't argue from time to time?).

The most important thing my parents gave me was the opportunity to know and love Jesus! I can hardly remember a Sunday morning or Sunday night, for that matter, where we were not at church. From the time I was born, I was in church with my parents--every week! I was dedicated in church, which I believe to be a very important step in parenting. It was a way for my parents to stand before the church and promise to raise us up in a Christian household, with Godly values--and boy did they ever! I have taken this same step with both of my children and it was one of the most meaningful things we have ever done as parents.

My parents were also big supporters of our youth group as we became teenagers. I can remember them attending loud, Christian, rock concerts, driving us to church 2-3 times a week for youth group related outings, and hauling around our friends, who we wanted to bring with us to church.

And then there were all of the "extra" things they did. The things that were above and beyond being a great parent.

- Like driving my warm, homemade dinner to me at work, so I could come outside and eat it in our warm van in the winter.

=Like driving to my work to brush the snow off my car (and my friend's car too), and warm it up as well.

- Like staying up until we got home, no matter how late it got or how tired they were.

- Like following me around secretly on my first few solo driving adventures (and never revealing themselves), just in case I needed help.

- Like praying for me everyday, helping me study for tests in school, and giving me the daily encouragement I needed.

- Like hiding snacks in our room for us to find later.

- Like driving all over the Twin Cities area just to find the perfect pair of jeans for school--Thanks Dad!

I could honestly go on and on about all of the "extra" things my parents did that made them so special to me. Mom and Dad, if you can think of any of the other "extras" please let a comment on here to share. I'd love to share even more of them.

Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad. Thank you for being such great parents to me and wonderful grandparents to my children. Brady and Logan love you guys so much!!
